Did it rain in Castle Rock?

The sandstone at Castle Rock State Park, and the park across the street Sandborn County Park, is Vaqueros Sandstone and becomes very delicate after it rains. Please wait a minimum of 24 hours after it rains before you begin climbing, more commonly 48-72 hours are required. If you are unsure, check the soil at the base of the rock. At the base of a route or problem, scrape away the top layer of dirt. If the top 1" to 2" of soil are dry, that's a strong indication that the area has dried out. FAQ
