The sandstone at Castle Rock State Park, and the park across the street Sandborn County Park, is Vaqueros Sandstone and becomes very delicate after it rains. Please wait a minimum of 24 hours after it rains before you begin climbing, more commonly 48-72 hours are required. If you are unsure, check the soil at the base of the rock.
At the base of a route or problem, scrape away the top layer of dirt. If the top 1" to 2" of soil are dry, that's a strong indication that the area has dried out.
